I really love how many different backgrounds people in data viz come from. It means if you're interested, you can get into the field and thrive, regardless of what you studied, or what you've done.

Lovely article Evelina ☺️

Thank you! And from my experience, it’s actually a strong positive sign for an employer: people who got into the field really wanted it, so they’re passionate and hard workers 💫

Many thanks for sharing your insights! It is easier to read the article for me and the information on the article is quite informative. I should spare the time for reading your article in 2026!

This is amazing—love it! I’d also love to see a graph showing the number of citations instead of Google reads

Thank you! I don’t have plans to update this viz but you never know :)

I always thought I was in the minority by arriving at data visualization from a background in art/design but it's interesting that your chart shows just the opposite. I don't feel so alone now!

You’re actually in the majority! In case that helps 😀

It's weird you mention "10,000 hours" because the same author of Range disproved Gladwell's "10,000 hours" theory. Alex Edmans "May Contain Lies" dives deeper into the limited data used to make up the "10,000 hours" theory.

I mention it because that’s something most people know about! Will have to check out the other book ;)
