Hello Evelina, what about titles in an automatic dashboard?

Those are tricky because you're not exactly doing storytelling—the data may change without you knowing when and how. In that case, I suggest asking a question! So instead of saying "sales over time", you could go with something like "what's the sales trend?" or "how have sales evolved over time?". That should grab the audience attention a bit more than a generic description :)

What most resonated with me from your data storytelling course was the part about headlines. It felt like a true "aha" moment 🤓, the same for this article

Yes!! And we now have actual research about it (at least a little). How easily do your stakeholders accept headlines when you write them in a real life scenario?

Uff, great question! When presenting data or reports, headlines are super useful for establishing context. Naturally, you need to tailor the headlines to your audience. However, it's slightly different for explorative data apps or data products 😅... Plot headlines can't be overly personalized. This is where UX writing comes into play. Similar to your examples, you need to write concise and descriptive titles for each section: the plots, the filters, the actions, the menus, and the recommendations. It's not just "filters" or "x vs y"; it's more like "Want to visualize by demographics?" followed by the options.

that's funny, this is similar to your response for the other comment xD

Hehe yes! 😀 It’s quite different for products that are explorative. Glad you’re experimenting with questions though! Anything is better than that automatic Tableau or Google sheets title of “x vs. y” 🙈

really great article...something im constantly talking about with my team at work. "don't make me think" or editorialize the data, is so important when we're making data viz that helps to inform business decisions. pull the main point out and then give your user space to interact or analyze further

Exactly! The trick being though, how to choose the best and least biased insight 😬
